The Gath Surf Convertible Helmet is based off the original Gath Pro Surf Helmet, but with the addition of removable ears. This accomplishes a couple things. 1st The ears are removable for those who don’t like to have their ears covered can take them off, ans also the ear pieces are more flexible than the original full shell design so it can fit people with wider jaw lines more easily which makes fitting the helmet easier.
Gath is the premier name in water sports helmets. Purpose designed for surfing the Gath helmet is very low profile and are extremely light weighing just over a pound. They have full head coverage, much more than most other brands while they also allow a unhindered field of vision and range of motion. They don’t measure up against helmets the way DOT measures helmet strength, but they do a much better job in real world applications. Their rounded shell is able to deflect blows more readily than a larger helmet, the extremely low profile design prevents dragging or snagging on water or other objects, and the fit system actually connects the liner to the users head so that it does not move around on your head. So it will never slip down over your eyes or come off the back of your head. Gath helmets have grown well beyond surfing and have become a staple in whitewater kayaking, skydiving, search and rescue, kitesurfing, windsurfing and sports where people are on and in the water.
If you want head protection without ear coverage and as little bulk as possible, the Gath Surf Convertible Helmet with detachable ear pockets will provide you a smart balance between impact head protection and lightweight comfort. The Surf Convertible’s lightweight, comfort, low-profile design and convertibility make it the best choice for surfers.
The Gath Surf Convertible Helmet features foam forehead coverage that adds additional protection. Flexible ear protectors automatically adapt to your face size and shape and are removable to suit temperature or user preference, and audio vents are fully adjustable. Fit can be customized with comfort strips to achieve a fit that offers maximum comfort and stability.
Added Forehead Protection
Molded high-density foam padding adds protective insulation from bumps, helps hold helmet in proper position, and adds sizing element for optimal fit.

User review of Gath Surf Convertible Helmet and Barz Floater Sunglasses (Carbon Frame with amber polarized lenses with wax coating): “The helmets are very nice. Honestly you do not feel them at all — we were out 4 hrs and I never noticed them….the boom bounced off my son’s head once and he commented that he was glad he had the helmet. With the helmet and my sun glasses, the sun was off my face the whole time. I like the ear protection as well — the sun is off and you are insulated from the high winds but you can hear well. Now that I’ve worn them I will not sail without. It is comforting to have your head protected in those high winds. The sun glasses are terrific -— the lenses you suggested are fantastic. 4 hrs in that sun and I could see well and eyes were not fatigued at all – they fit very well in the helmet and are very comfortable. I highly recommend both!!!!!“
