How does an Aquapac work?

The Aquaclip™ is the key. This patented sealing sytem makes the cases completely waterproof and keeps out sand and dust, too. The Aquaclip™ is so simple to use that you can open and close the cases in a couple of seconds. It's made entirely of a light but tough plastic. It has been opened and closed 10,000 times in tests and is still waterproof.

What do you mean by "100% waterproof?"

BSI British Standars have tested the patented Aquaclip™ sealing system to IP67 and IP68, the two most demanding waterproofing standards available. All cases protected by the Aquaclip™ are guaranteed submersible to at least 15ft/5m. Some can be taken much deeper. Just to be sure, Aquapac tests the cases underwater in their own testing tank.

What size case will I need for my gear?

Aquapac cases are 2-dimensional and become 3-dimensional when you put something in them. Therefore, giving their width and length when flat is not very helpful. The most important measurement is the circumference of the case aperture. To measure the circumference of your unit, use a cloth measuring tape, or take a piece of thread and stretch it around the thickest part, then measure against a ruler.

The 'length' measurement indicates the maximum size of a piece of equipment that will fit inside the case. Size guides for matching Aquapac cases with top-selling equipment models are available at Aquapac's Web site.

Are there any instructions for caring for the case?

Before using an Aquapac for the first time, you need to make sure that it got to you in perfect condition. We ask you to do ‘The Bubble Test’: Seal something worthless inside and submerge in a basin. A few air bubbles may escape from the Aquaclip. This is ok; water can get into parts of the clamp without getting into the case. But if a stream of bubbles escaped when you squeezed it there could be a problem, and you should contact us to obtain a replacement. The Bubble Test is also a good time to check that the case floats. Before each use you must examine the Aquapac to make sure it’s not visibly damaged; to be safe you should always do The Bubble Test. Before opening, you must shake any water from the Aquaclip. Otherwise it could get into the case when you open it. Avoid scratching any of the flexible case materials, especially the lens window on the camera cases. If stowing – for example in a boat or jetski compartment – do so carefully so it won’t be damaged in rough seas. Wash in soapy water and then rinse with fresh water, especially after regular contact with chlorinated or salt water, or with sun creams. Do not use bleach, alcohol or proprietary cleaners. The lens window on the camera cases may also be cleaned with photographic quality tissues. Make sure that the flexible clips (which attach the case to the Aquaclip clamp) are properly attached to the case and to the clamp at all times. Should they come apart, put them back together carefully. If in doubt, return the case to us to reassemble.

Will the Aquapac really float with my stuff inside?

Yes. The Aquaclip creates a hermetic seal – once closed, the case is airtight. Most electronic equipment is full of air. So it’s not so much the air around the outside of your phone or camera or whatever, but the air actually inside it that makes it float. If you put lead bars or gold ingots inside a Seti case and carefully squeeze out all the air before sealing, the Aquapac may not float. Sorry.

Are there tips for taking good photographs?

It's a bit like taking a photograph through your window at home. First of all, the window needs to be as clean as possible. Even with a clean window, you may notice some reflection, but the closer you hold the camera lens to the window, the less the reflection. Similarly, Aquapac cases give best results with the lens window tight against the camera lens. Try to avoid flash photography, but if you do need to use the flash, make sure that the case is tight over the flash so the light doesn't reflect back into the lens.

It takes a bit of practice and a little luck to get really good underwater photos, so please don't think that every shot you take is going to be a magazine cover shot. You need strong sunshine and clear water. Try to shoot in the middle of the day when the sun is at its highest and best results will be just below the surface of the water. Light disappears quickly as you go deeper, as do colors. One of the advantages of digital cameras is that you can retouch your photos afterwards to replace colors lost underwater. Even clear water is full of microorganisms and other particles, so the less water between you and your subject, the less difference this will make and the clearer your shots are likely to be. The secret is to use a wide lens and shoot close up.

What are the guarantees and warranties?

Aquapac guarantees that, if used in accordance with the instructions, your case will be free from defects in workmanship or materials for 3 years from the date of purchase. The flexible case material is strong, but can still be punctured. The case must be intact and the clip poperly sealed to maintain protection. It cannot be guaranteed against accidental damage. A customer care guide is supplied with every case.
